The Australian Open is the first
of the four Grand Slam tournaments and is held at Melbourne Park in January
each year. The tournament lasts for two weeks and even though Melbourne
has some ever changing weather patterns there is always some very hot
days to truly test out the tennis players and the fans alike.
The Australian Open started in 1905 and has now over one hundred years of sporting tradition to it's name. Sporting events are always big in Melbourne and the Australian Open is no exception. It regularly draws huge crowds over the 2 week event with the many coming to see the great lead up games on the outside courts. Like all the other Grand Slam tournaments, the Australian Open consists of the following competitions:
