The big V8′s are set to hit the track for the start of the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship. The season starts of this year in Adelaide for the Clipsal 500 where a huge crowd of over 250,00 is expected to attend the 4 day event.
In the past, the opening event of the year has been a non championship round held during the Melbourne Grand Prix. This was a good chance for many of the drivers and teams to do some last minute testing of their cars before the official season started.
With the Grand prix event date moved to April due to this years Melbourne Commonwealth Games, the V8 guys miss this final testing opportunity and will go straight to the opening race in Adelaide.
Last years championship winner Russell Ingall will be trying to back up his win in 05, with Holden’s Mark Skaife and Ford’s Craig Lowndes looking like his biggest challengers.
