The Ranvet Stakes – 5 April 2008

The $400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes is a 1900 metre weight-for-age race for 3 year-olds and up, Normally held at Rosehill over 2000m it will be ran at Canterbury this year.

At the start of the 2008 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival it could quite possibly give Bart Cummings his 250th Group 1 winner with the Australian Cup winner Sirmione being his only starter in the ten horse field.

 The Australian Cup runner up Princess Coup is also in the field, as is the Gai Waterhouse trained Tuesday Joy who has ran second at both starts this preparation in quality fields. Gai is the only trainer with more than one horse in the race as she also has Desert War who won this race in 2007 when it was run over 2000 metres at Rosehill.

Our Smoking Joe and The Fuzz are also not without a chance, so this should be an excellent race despite the small field.
