The Group 1 Thrifty Royal Randwick Guineas over 1600 metres at Randwick has attracted a field of 17 three-year-olds, with Arapaho Miss being the only filly.
This years race sees a wide range of talent ranging from a horse that has only broken his maiden status at Kembla earlier this month to the well-fancied Weekend Hustler. Weekend Hustler has already won 4 Group 1’s but this will be his first time racing the Sydney way of going and he will be stepping up to the mile after his last 2 wins over 1100m and 1200m.
Anthony Cummings is the only trainer with 2 starters in the race – Solo Flyer and Turfontein – and although the form doesn’t look enough to win, Cummings did win the Chipping Norton Stakes with Casino Prince last Saturday.
Largo Lad from Wangaratta is an interesting runner who flew home in the Cadbury Guineas after being held up for a run. Arapaho Miss also flew home late in her last start in the Kewnsey and will provide some serious competition.
