Rosehill hosts a 9 event program this Saturday with five Group 1 races, a Group 2 and three listed races on the program. The main race of the day is the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper over 1200 metres, the richest two-year old race in the world.
Studs have been busy this week with Patinack Farm purchasing a 50 percent share in the colt Sidereus on Monday, and Arrowfield buying a 50 percent share in the colt All American on Wednesday.
There is a full field of 16 plus two emergencies and David Hayes dominates the field with four runners – All American, Blue Diamond winner Reaan, Van Costa De Hero and Hips Don’t Lie. Gai Waterhouse has 2 runners with the undefeated Sebring and the quality filly She’s Meaner. Lee Freedman has Sugar Babe who has won over this course and distance.
Betting is very open and Sebring with Glen Boss on board is the early favourite. Boss won The Slipper in 1995 on Flying Spur. Other previous Slipper winners in this years race are Darren Beadman (on Hips Don’t Lie), Damien Oliver (on Anatomica) and Craig Williams (on Von Costa De Hero).
Female jockey Clare Lindrop rides the South Australian filly Augusta Proud who has won all 6 of her starts, and both horse and rider have earned their start in this race after the Magic Millions where they changed course in the straight and Clare drove the filly through the narrowest of gaps in order to win. Connections were confident enough to pay a late entry fee on Monday.
