A field of nine will face the starter in the listed $75,000 Tattersalls Mile over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm. The topweight is the Robert Heathcote trained Majorca with 57 kg.
Heathcote isn’t happy about the weight as this is only one kg less than the original topweight Sneaky Long. If Sneaky Long had remained in the field then Majorca would have carried 55.5 kg but the handicappers used their discretionary powers to lift the weight.
Majorca is currently second favourite behind Perfect Feeling who will be ridden by Scott Seamer. Majorca has been racing well against her own sex, and the distance looks perfect for her. Even though she is giving weight to all but two horses in the field she will have less weight than she is used to.
The third line of betting has five horses – Sam’s Express, Grey Stream and Rash Promise. Sam’s Express won his last start over 1600 metres in the Sunshine Coast Guineas, but will find it tougher racing against the older horses. Grey Stream has won her last 2 starts including a last start win over the 1600 metre distance, while Rash Promise came second to Perfect Feeling at her last start, and meets her better at the weights.
