Shoot Out - Early Favourite for Cox Plate
The W S Cox Plate is the ultimate weight-for-age race in Australia and following his win in the JJ Liston Stakes last Saturday Shoot Out has shot to favouritism in the early markets. Although the race is over two months away on 23 October 2010 and there are 186 nominations his price has been slashed to $5 and there are plenty of punters who feel this is a good price.
Nominations for the 2010 WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley
With 186 nominations there are multiple horses from many of the biggest trainers. Bart Cummings has a strong contingent of 21 including 2009 winner So You Think, Faint Perfume, Sirmione and Dariana. David Hayes has 9 nominations, Gai Waterhouse has 8 and Lee Freedman has 5. An interesting nomination is Macau’s first Triple Crown winner Luen Yat Forever. Predatory Pricer came second to Shoot Out when he returned from injury last week (he won the Liston in 2009) and looked good. Newly crowned Victorian Racehorse of the Year Typhoon Tracy is an interesting Cox plate nomination and she returns to racing in the Group 2 $200,000 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 28 August.
