It wasn’t all bad news for master trainer Bart Cummings on Saturday with the lightly raced 3YO Rock Classic scoring an emphatic win in the Group 1 Crown Guineas run over 1600m at Flemington.
The Peter Snowden trained Denman was sent out a red-hot favourite and once again failed to run out the 1600m trip. He’s been a superstar of the turf in all but two races in his 12 start career and both have been failures over the mile.
He raced a little ungenerously sitting outside the leader after missing the start but he was a well beaten commodity a long way from home.
Connections of Set For Fame can consider themselves a little unlucky after she got held up behind a floundering Denman when the power went on.
Rock Classic will now head back to Sydney races for their Autumn Carnival. It’s unlikely we will be seeing the $18 on offer on Saturday again from the bookies.
