Racing Preview – Sat 30 May

Queensland Oaks – Eagle Farm
Saturdays feature race is the Group 1 $400,000 Conrad Treasury Queensland Oaks over 2400 metres and there is a field of 19 three-year-old fillies. The early betting has Ekstreme as favourite at $4.80 , ahead of Nothin’ Leica Cat at $5.50, Purple and Think Money both at $6, then Prix Du Sang, Rezyana and Can’t Keeper Down all at $12.

New Zealand filly Ekstreme came second to Awesome Planet ($13) at their last start in the Doomben Roses over 2020metres, but Ekstreme looked as she will handle the extra distance better and has drawn barrier 8 while Awesome Planet is out wide in barrier 18. Think Money is one of the two fillies in the field who are still maidens, but ranks 5th in prizemoney and looks capable of running a place here.

Jo’s tips: 1. Ekstreme, 2. Awesome Planet, 3. Think Money

PJ O’Shea – Eagle Farm
The Group 2 $250,000 Seppelt Wine P.J. O’Shea Stakes is a weight-for-age race over 2200 metres with a field of 15 runners. The early favourite is Scenic Shot at $3.20, followed by Rampant Lion at $4.60, Rabbuka at$5.50, Sir Slick at $8, Imvula at $9, Fulmonti at $10 and Veloce Bella at $11.

Rampant Lion has a very powerful finish and performs well at this track and Scenic Shot looked good winning the Doomben Cup 2 weeks ago. Rabbuka has not won beyond 1900metres but has been performing well and should place here. Fulmonti is also worth an each-way bet.

Jo’s tips: 1. Rampant Lion, 2. Scenic Shot, 3. Rabbuka

W.J. McKell Cup – Rosehill
The main race in Sydney is the Listed $100,000 W J McKell Cup over 2400 metres which has attracted a field of 12. The early market has fairly open betting with Lyncean Academy as $4.80 favourite, just ahead of Music Review and Prince Arthur both at $5, then Ready To Lift at $5.50, Nuclear Sky at $6.50, Keepin’ The Dream at $8.50 with the rest of the field at double figures.

The track is likely to be rain affected and horses that have won in both slow and heavy going are Nuclear Sky, Music Review and Want A Bet. Music Review was only a head away in the Lord Mayors Cup last start, and has won at 2400 metres before, Prince Arthur was also close behind and the distance should suit. Nuclear Sky is topweight with 58.5kg but is a quality horse who can handle the weight.

Jo’s tips: 1. Music Review, 2. Prince Arthur, 3. Nuclear Sky
