Beaufine Stakes – Belmont
The Listed $75,000 Beaufine Stakes over 1000 metres has a field of 12 sprinters after the early scratching of Oroya Gold. The clear favourite in the early market is Vizard at $2.80. The five-year-old gelding has not started for almost a full year and is topweight with 59kg, which is 4kg above the second weight and 6kg more than most of the field. His statistics are most impressive – 6 starts at the distance for 6 wins, 11 starts at the track for 8 wins and 3 places.
Next in the market is Vain Raider at $4.20, Ma Ma Machine at $5.50, Danebeela at $6.50, Dane’s Mystery at $9, Escadaire at $9.50 and Centrum at $12. Three-year-old filly Danebeela has won 5 of her 6 starts including both her starts at this track. The weights favour her over Vizard
Jo’s tips: 1. Danebeela, 2. Vizard, 3. Vain Raider
Hiskens Steeplechase – Moonee Valley
The $200,000 Dominant Hiskens Steeplechase over 4050 metres has attracted a field of 11 seasoned jumpers. They range in age from the five-year-old Pentiffic to the ten-year-old Spirit of Alaton, and all have another birthday next week. Favourite in the early market is Geeorb at $3.20 slightly ahead of Pentiffic at $3.50. Next in the market is Hasta Manana at $7, Sir Pentire at $7.50, Hooker Road at $8 and Spirit of Alaton at $9.50.
Geeorb has won his last 2 starts and is looking for a hat-trick. Stop The Traffic ($16) looks as if he will handle the distance and won his last start over the steeples. Pentiffic looked good winning his last start over hurdles by 7 lengths.
Jo’s tips: 1. Geeorb, 2. Stop The Traffic, 3. Pentiffic
