J.J. Liston Stakes – Caulfield
Caulfield has an 8 race program with 2 Listed races (Vain Stakes and Quezette Stakes) a Group 3 (Cockram Stakes) and the main race is the Group 2 $200,000 J.J.Liston Stakes weight-for-age for three-year-olds and upwards. The 1400 metres race has a field of 15 and the early market has Typhoon Tracy as favourite at $2.60. The mare has 5 starts for 5 wins at distances from 1200 to 1500 metres.
Next in the early market is Whobegotyou at $3.90, Heart Of Dreams at $6, Predatory Pricer at $8, Orange County at $9 and Gallica at $21. Nine horses in the field are first-up after a break of over 100 days, making it hard to line up form. Heart Of Dreams and Whobegotyou have both won first-up before.
Jo’s tips: 1. Typhoon Tracy, 2. Heart of Dreams, 3. Whobegotyou
Premiere Stakes – Rosehill
The main race at Rosehill is the Group 2 $150,000 Smithfield RSL Club Premiere Stakes over 1200 metres. There is a field of 8 and the early favourite is Phelan Ready at $3 ahead of More Than Great at $4.40 and Fritz’s Princess at $4.80. Next in the early market is Triple Honour at $6, Kroner at $8.50 and Porsched at $11.
The weight-for-age race has 4 of the field carrying 58.5kg, the mare Fritz’s Princess carries 56.5kg and the 3 three-year-old colts all carry only 51.5kg. The top 3 horses in the early betting are all sired by More Than Ready. Phelan Ready won the Golden Slipper here in April and although returning from a spell he won a trial on 7 August. Fritz’s Princess is a very honest mare who got held up at her last start. Mentality ($21) is first-up but won a trial 4 August.
Jo’s tips: 1. Phelan Ready, 2. Fritz’s Princess, 3. Mentality
The Run To The Roses – Rosehill
