Sandown Classic – Sandown
The Melbourne Spring Carnival winds up with a 9 race program at Sandown for Sandown Classic Day with two Group 2’s, a Group 3 and four Listed races. The Group 2 $350,000 TMB Printing Sandown Classic weight-for-age race over 2400 metres has a field of 10 quality stayers who have starred in major spring races. The early market has Scenic Shot as $3.40 favourite after his last start win in the Mackinnon.
Next in the early betting market is Master O’Reilly at $4.40, Zipping at $5, Raffaello at $8, Purple at $9, Miss Maren at $9.50, Zarita at $11 and C’est La Guerre at $13. Scenic Shot was impressive in the Mackinnon and has won over 2400m. Master O’Reilly takes a long while to get going, but can run a place here. Miss Maren showed she was good enough to race against the boys with a second in the Mackinnon.
Jo’s tips: 1. Scenic Shot, 2. Master O’Reilly, 3. Miss Maren
Sandown Guineas – Sandown
The Group 2 $350,000 Betfair Sandown Guineas is a set-weights race for three-year-olds over 1600 metres and has a field of 9 runners. The early betting market has Kidnapped as clear favourite at $2.25. Next in the market is Khas Kura at $4.20, Majestic Music at $6, Disco Summit at $9, Absolute Soda at $10 then Silver Spur and Turf Express both at $12.
Majestic Music is the only filly in the race and carries 2kg less than the others. She won the Morphettville Guineas in September then won the Edward Manifold at Flemington. She was checked in her next start where she only ran 7th then won the Lexus Hybrid on Melbourne Cup day. With the light weight she could cause an upset win here. Kidnapped has won 3 of his 8 starts including the Carbine Club last start and is obviously a force to be reckoned with. Absolute Soda runs on at the end and the 1600m should suit.
Jo’s tips: 1. Majestic Music, 2. Kidnapped, 3. Absolute Soda
Race-Tech Stakes – Sandown
The Group 3 $125,000 Race-Tech Stakes over 1500 metres has a field of 10 runners. The early betting market has Sound of Nature as favourite at $3.80 ahead of Walking Or Dancing at $4.40 and Ahdashim at$4.80. Next in the market are Nine Tales and Jungle Ruler both at $7, Dollops and Itsamonty both at $12 then Bryannbo’s Gift at $14.
Sound Of Nature was favourite last start when he ran third to Right Fong, but is worth another chance. Nine Tales last two starts were at Cranbourne and Sale but he has won here before and looks a place chance. Walking Or Dancing will find this a much easier field than his recent starts.
Jo’s tips: 1. Sound Of Nature, 2. Nine Tales, 3. Walking Or Dancing
The 2009 Victorian Spring Racing Carnival officially comes to an end with the Ballarat meeting on Wednesday 18 November.
