Crown Oaks – Flemington
There is a 9 race program at Flemington for Crown Oaks Ladies Day. The Group 1 $1,000,000 Crown Oaks is a set weights race for three-year-old fillies over 2500 metres and has a field of 13 runners. The early market has Faint Perfume as odds-on favourite at $1.75 following her stunning win in the Wakeful on Saturday. Next in the market are Silent Surround and Valdemoro both at $8.50, Livia at $11, Miss With Attitude and Melito both at $15 and Well Rounded at $18.
Faint Perfume was most impressive at her last start and seems to have staying power. Melito never runs a bad race while Well Rounded finished the Geelong Classic off well and looks capable of handling the 2500m. Well Rounded is trained by Lee Freedman who has won the VRC Oaks four times.
Jo’s tips: 1. Faint Perfume, 2. Melito, 3. Well Rounded
TCL Electronics Stakes – Flemington
The Listed $150,000 TCL Electronics Stakes is a set weights plus penalties race for three-year-old fillies over 1200 metres and has a field of 16 plus 2 emergencies. Big Spirit has already been scratched which means first emergency Cinecitta will get a start.
The early betting market has Trim as $3.80 favourite, followed by Marquardt at $4.80, Pretty at $6, Cinecitta at $6.50, Gibraltar Moon At $9.50 then Rue Maple, Husskila and Masai Miss all at $11. Trim hasn’t had a start since May but is reported to be working very well. Gibraltar Moon has won 5 of her 8 starts but looks as if the 1000m is her preferred distance and has drawn very wide. Cinecitta won a Kyneton maiden by 6 lengths last start and may be able to place here.
Jo’s tips: 1. Trim, 2. Gibraltar Moon, 3. Cinecitta
Myer Spring Fashion Stakes – Flemington
The Listed $150,000 Myer Spring Fashion Stakes for three-year-olds over 1800 metres has a field of 10 runners. The early betting market has Turf Express as favourite at $3.80 despite the fact he will carry 57kg and the rest of the field will all carry 53.5kg. Next in the market is King Diamond at $4.20, Don Jose at $4.40, Kutchinsky at $6.50, Excuse My French at $8.50 and Reflection at $9.
Turf Express is the only horse in the race who has more than one win to his name. He can also carry weight and should win here. King Diamond is a nice type of horse and should get the 1800m. Reflection has only one start for a win at Kyneton by over 2 lengths, and could surprise.
Jo’s tips: 1. Turf Express, 2. King Diamond, 3. Reflection
