With the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival now underway it is easy to forget that there is also an Autumn Racing Carnival at Ascot racecourse in Western Australia. Nominations for the three Group races have just been released. The Ascot Autumn Carnival is held over 2 racedates of Saturday 17 April 2010 and Saturday 24 April 2010.
Feature Races of 2010 Ascot Autumn Carnival
On 17th April the feature races are the Group 2 $500,000 Go For 2&5 Karrakatta Plate for two-year-olds over 1200 metres, the Group 3 $250,000 Burswood Entertainment Complex WA Oaks for three-year-old fillies over 2400 metres, and the Listed $75,000 Grandstand Cup. On 24th April the feature races are the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes WATC Derby for three-year-olds over 2400 metres and the Listed $75,000 Matchmaker Stakes.
Nominations for 2010 Perth Autumn Group Races
The Group 1 WATC. Derby has a total of 66 three-year-olds nominated and weights will be declared on Friday. 22 of the nominations are from Victorian stables and include Spacecraft, Extra Zero and Speedy Natalie. Last year the race was won by Victorian filly Marcus Maximus. The Group 2 Karrakatta Plate has 88 two-year-olds nominated including 16 from Victoria while the Group 3 WA Oaks has a total of 39 entries with 15 from Victoria.
