The XXXX Gold Doomben Cup

The $500,000 Group 1 XXXX Gold Doomben Cup over 2020 metres has attracted a full field of sixteen plus an emergency.

The favourite in this weight-for-age race is West Australian horse Scenic Shot who has won 10 of his 35 starts and finishes his races off very strongly. Viewed and Eskimo Queen are on the next line of betting.

Bart Cummings is hoping Viewed can give him that elusive 250^th Group 1 win that he was not able to achieve during Sydney’s autumn carnival. Bart has never won a Doomben Cup although he has been second on three occasions. Viewed will be ridden by Steven Arnold who won this race last year on longshot Cinque Cento.

Eskimo Queen was held up in the Doncaster and couldn’t show her best. Sarrera, the shock winner of the Queen Elizabeth, is also close in the betting. Grand Zulu came fourth in this race last year.

The Dommben Cup was first held in 1933 and the race record was set by Might And Power in 1998.
