The 2008 Queensland Oaks – 31 May

There is a high-powered racing programme at Eagle Farm on Saturday with a Group 1, three Group 2 races, two Group 3 races and two listed races.

The $400,000 Group 1 Conrad Treasury Queensland Oaks is a set weight race for three-year-old fillies over 2400 metres.

There is a field of 16 and the favourite is Heavenly Glow who has won her last three starts and has won 9 of her 16 starts. The New Zealand-trained filly Our Valpolicella is currently second favourite and has finished her last 2 races off very strongly. Miss Maren flew home late in the Doomben Roses and has drawn barrier one.

Victorian filly Maunatrice has plenty of support in this race despite drawing wide in barrier 15. She won her last start over 2040 by over 4 lengths and was very impressive, however pedigree analysts say she can’t win over 2400 metres as she is from a sprinting family.

Riva San has been finishing her races off well and looks like an improver. She will be ridden by Scott Seamer who won this race in 2001 on Ethereal. Last year the Queensland Oaks was won by Eskimo Queen.
