SA Derby - 12 April 2008

Morphettville hosts an 8 event program with two Group 1 races, a Group 2 and a Group 3 on the program. The two group races both have a lot of history behind them with the $325,000 Group 1 SA Derby having first been run in 1860 while the $300,000 Group 1 Goodwood over 1200 metres is almost as old with its first running in 1881.

 The AV Jennings/Urban Pacific SA Derby is a 2500 metre set weight race for three-year-olds, and has a full field of 16 as well as 3 emergencies. There are only 2 fillies in the field – the David Hayes trained El Daana and the talented staying filly Zarita whose connections paid a late entry fee to run her in this race. Both fillies have chances carrying 2.5 kg less than the colts and geldings.

David Hayes also has Zagreb in the field who looks well suited for this journey.
