Queen of the Turf Stakes - 5 April 2008

The $400,000 Group 1 Myer Queen of the Turf Stakes over 1550 metres has attracted a field of 12 and 1 emergency. This weight-for-age race for fillies and mares is usually ran at Rosehill and is restricted to 12 runners this year because of the tight circuit at Canterbury.

The race has been held since 1972, originally as a Group 3 race. In 1991 it was upgraded as a Group 2 and has been listed as a Group 1 race since 2005.

Forensics is a Group1 winner with 5 wins from ten starts and her form looks hard to beat. Devil Moon and Eskimo Queen are also proven Group 1 performers. David Hayes is starting two up and coming four-year-old mares with Catechuchu and Translate while Bart Cummings has the two three-year-old fillies Occurrence and Mimi Lebrock.

If Sirmione doesn’t give Bart his 250th Group 1 win in the Ranvet, both of the fillies have a chance to do it here.
