The $50,000 Dequetteville Stakes for two year old fillies is a listed race over 1100 metres and is the feature race at Morphettville on Saturday. The field of 12 fillies has some interesting runners with 8 trainers represented.
David Hayes has won this race three times before in 1990, 1993 and 1994, and has three runners this year with Belle D’Orleans, Intelligentsia and More Chickens. Belle D’Orleans looks a good chance after a last start win and 2 wins from 4 starts, Intelligentsia hasn’t started since March but is being ridden by Dwayne Dunn who has won the Dequetteville twice (1999 and 2005) while More Chickens is an unraced Zabeel.
Chad Lever who is running second in the SA jockeys premiership will ride Very Discreet who was an eye-catching winner at her debut two weeks ago, while the runner up Impressive Eagle will be ridden by Clare Lindrop who is leading the premiership.
The two fillies were 4 lengths in front of the rest of the field, so it will be an interesting rematch. Jon O’Connor has two starters Miss Blake, with a win and four placings from five starts, and The Long Road who looks as if the slightly longer distance will suit. John Salanitri is starting two unraced fillies in the race – Surefirerose and Tell Me Why.
