Since the F1 championship started in 1950, the motor racing world has seen a string of champion drivers and teams. Most recently the 2005 and 2006 world champion Fernando Alonso in the Renault, who challenged the seemingly unbeatable former world champion Michael Schumacher in Ferrari.
This season marks the end of a dominant era in formula 1 with the retirement of Michael Schumacher at the end of 2006. The drivers and constructors championship is once again wide open for a number of top racing teams.
There will be a lot of interest in the McLaren team with Alonso and Hamilton who both have high expectations. Ferrari are, as usual likely to be a strong challenger for the constructors championship with the signing of Raikkonen, however BMW Sauber, Renault, Williams and Honda are also likely to keep the punters guessing.
Aussie fans need to keep an eye on Mark Webber who has joined David Coulthard in the Red Bull team.
