2010 Betfred Sprint Cup
Haydock Racecourse in Merseyside England has a massive race day on 4 September featuring the 44th running of the Betfred Sprint Cup. The six furlong (about 1200 metre) race has a list of past winners that includes some of the most outstanding European racehorses over the last 40 years. This year the 2009 Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner is expected to be one of the stars. He was previously trained by Leon Corstens but is now part of the Ballydoyle stable.
Nominations for the 2010 Betfred Sprint Cup
There are currently 22 horses in the Betfred Sprint Cup but not all are expected to run. In 2009 the race was won by Regal Parade from Fleeting Spirit and High Standing. Those three are all in this years field and so is Equiano who ran 5th. Starspangledbanner won over a mile in Australia but has won both of Britain’s best six-furlong races the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot in June and the July Cup at Newmarket. At his last start over 5 furlongs at Nunthorpe in mid-August he came second behind 100-1 outsider Sole Power but the distance here will suit better. Regal Parade won this race last year and had a Group1 victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on 8 August
