The 2010 Dubai World Cup meeting will be held on Saturday 27 March at the Meydan Racecourse. The Dubai World Cup was first held in 1996 and in the past it has been held at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in Dubai. The race is worth US$10 million in 2010, making it the richest thoroughbred race in the world. There are no Australian horses in the Dubai World Cup but there are Australian horses in two of the support races which also have huge prizemoney.
All Silent is in the Al Quoz Sprint
All Silent is running in the $US1 million Al Quoz Sprint over 1200 metres on the new turf track. He will start from barrier 4 and if he performs well in Dubai will go on to England to race at Royal Ascot in June. Other horses in the race have Australian connections or are Australian-bred, including Fravashi who was previously trained by Peter Snowden, Our Giant and War Artist.
Eagle Falls is in the Dubai Golden Shaheen
Eagle Falls is running in the US$2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen over 1200 metres on the all weather surface track. He will start from barrier 2 after running second in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on 6 March. He will be racing against Rocket Man who is the top sprinter in Singapore, as well as Australian-bred One World who races in Hong Kong.
Meydan Racecourse
Meydan racecourse cost an estimated $200billion to build and the first-ever race meeting there took place on Thursday, January 28th 2010. The track is designed to welcome 60,000 racegoers and the state-of-the-art Grandstand incorporates a 5-star hotel, the Meydan Museum, an 18-hole golf course and Dubai’s second IMAX cinema. The racetrack has both turf and artificial circuits and also incorporates training and breeding facilities.
