Cricket World Cup 2007- West Indies

The ICC Cricket World Cup series will get off to a cracking start in the Caribbean with the opening ceremony to be held on the 11 March 2007.

Australia will be competing fiercely in the World Cup series to try and regain their position as the most highly ranked limited-overs team and regain international respect.

Nations from the world over will be competing in the first group stage in the hopes of reaching the second stage – Super 8 which commences on Tuesday 27 March 2007. The semi-finals will then be held on the 24 and 25 April 2007 in Jamica and St Lucia with the Grand Final to be held on Saturday 28 April 2007 in Barbados.

Australia have been strongly tipped earlier in the summer after their success in the 2006/2007 Ashes series. However  recent injury clouds over key players, Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds in the lead up to the world cup series and recent poor form in the Chappell-Hadlee series in New Zealand has put the Australians on the back foot.

South Africa will be mounting a strong challenge for the 2007 World Cup in an attempt to retain their current top limited overs ranking. Other contenders will include India, Pakistan, England and New Zealand after recent good form. Whoever does manage to triumph will need to perform consistently on the Carribbean pitches.
