Blamey Stakes – 15 March 2008

The Group 2 Blamey Stakes over 1600 metres at Flemington has attracted a strong field of 14 acceptors.

The topweight of 59kg will be carried by last years Melbourne Cup winner, Efficient, who hasn’t raced in the 4 months since then.

Efficient has been doing great trackwork and will jump from the outside barrier in the 14-horse field. The field includes Molotov and Cargo Cult who both ran top races in the Futurity Stakes a fortnight ago.

Under the set weights plus penalties conditions of the Blamey, Cargo Cult drops 3.5kg from the 59kg he carried under the Futurity weight-for-age conditions. The David Hayes-trained Molotov ran third to Apache Cat in last year’s Blamey which was run at Sandown. Other fancies are Orange County, Stillme and Barlinnie.
