The Adelaide Cup is important enough to have a public holiday in South Australia. This year there are 23 acceptors which should give a full field of 20 for the 3200 metre Group Two race.
2008 will be the 138th running of the Adelaide Cup and at this stage Exalted Ego is the early favourite. He has drawn well in barrier seven, and would give local trainer Jim Smith his third Adelaide Cup win.
Last year the winner was Gallic in a photo from Lacey Underall. Lacey Underall is in again this year with the same weight of 53kg and is hoping to go one better but has drawn barrier 13. The Victorian horses Ista Kareem and Road to Athens have both been unlucky with wide barrier draws.
