2011 The BMW Preview & Tips
Rosehill – Sat 2 April 2011
The $2,250,000 Group 1 The BMW over 2400 metres is the main support race on Golden Slipper day at Rosehill. There is a field of 11 horses and geldings, ranging in age from 4 to 8-years-old. The field includes 2010 Caulfield Cup winner Descarado and 2010 Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday.
Runners in the 2011 BMW at Rosehill
Maluckyday ($2.70) has ran 4th at his 2 starts this campaign. His run in the Chipping Norton was good but 2 weeks ago in the Ranvet he seemed like a different horse. He reared a few times in the gates and looked as if he’d much rather be at home in his stall. I will never back this horse again when it is raining. Heavy track – yes, rain – no. Rosehill is not his track. His career record is 11 starts for 5 wins, 2 2nds, 2 3rds and 2 4ths. At Rosehill he has 3 starts for 2 3rds and a 4th so it is probably his worst performing track. I have my doubts about him here.
Descarado ($3.60) won the Caulfield Cup last year over this distance and then ran 2nd in the Mackinnon 2 weeks later where he was dropping in distance back to 2000m and was the only horse to come within 4 lengths of superstar So You Think at WFA. On the basis of that he should be right in this. His last start was ½ head 2nd in the Ranvet and he will go well here.
Linton ($5.50) has had 3 runs back from a spell and each run has looked better than the one before. The latest was 2nd to Shocking in the Australian Cup where he put in a huge run. Expect him to run well again.
Zavite ($13) put in his best run in a long tome when winning the Ranvet last start. If he repeats that run he will be in the finish here.
Hawk Island ($15) has placed at this distance n the past and will put in an honest run.
