2011 Rosehill Guineas Preview & Tips
Rosehill – Sat 26 March 2011
The $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000 metres is the feature event on a 9 race program at Rosehill. There is a field of 14 runners, including 2 runners who are still maidens – Don’t Put It There and Ducarius. There is only one filly in the race, which is not surprising because a filly has not won since 1989 when Riverina Charm was successful.
Runners in the 2011 Rosehill Guineas at Rosehill
Jimmy Choux ($4) is a New Zealand colt with 9 wins and 5 places from 16 starts. He has won his last 4 races in a row, culminating in a 2 length win in the New Zealand Derby on a heavy track. He has drawn well in barrier 6 and will be ridden by his regular jockey Jonathan Riddell. One of the top chances.
Absolutelyawesome ($4.60) was a little unlucky when a length 4th in the Randwick Guineas and will have no trouble with the extra 400m. Has in-form Group 1 winning jockey Glen Boss on board.
Retrieve ($5.50) won over this distance in the Group 3 Norm Robinson in the spring, and then came 3rd in the Victoria Derby. He resumed from a spell with 2nd in the Hobartville Stakes, followed by a fairly ordinary run in the Randwick Guineas.
Light Brigade ($7) is a Redoubte’s Choice colt from the Gai Waterhouse stable. He has had 3 runs from a spell with the latest a solid 3rd in the Randwick Guineas. Looks like a stayer in the making.
Shamrocker ($8) is the only filly in the race and is a genuine stayer. She has won 3 of her 10 starts and at her latest start she won the Australian Guineas by nearly 2 lengths. In November she came 2nd in the Crown Oaks over 2500m. Fillies rarely win this race, but this one has a genuine chance.
Masquerader ($15) has had 4 weeks off since running 4th in the Hobartville, where he did his best work late..
