2011 Ranvet Stakes Preview & Tips

The $400,000 Ranvet Stakes over 2000 metres is a Group 1 weight-for-age race for three-year-olds and upwards. It is the main support race event on a 9 race program at Rosehill on Coolmore Classic day which is the start of the three-week Golden Slipper festival. The track is currently rated as good and isolated showers are forecast. There is a disappointingly small field of seven runners with Maluckyday as the odds-on favourite. On the basis of his races in Melbourne during the spring carnival he should win this easily.

Maluckyday ($1.80) was one of the star horses of the Melbourne spring carnival, winning the Tatts Cup , the Lexus Cup and running second in the Melbourne Cup. He has only had 10 starts but has already amassed over a million dollars of prizemoney. He has a barnstorming finish and the further the race, the better he gets. He has had one run from a spell finishing 4^th in the Chipping Norton after coming from last at the 600m. Should win this one.

Descarado ($4.20) won the 2010 Caulfield Cup then came 2^nd in the Mackinnon to So You Think. He is a quality stayer and should improve from his first-up 6^th in the Chipping Norton.

Sacred Choice ($6) is a tough mare who goes very well over a mile, but won her only start at this distance. She has had 3 runs from a spell and her latest run was a 3^rd in the Chipping Norton, which means she finished ahead of Maluckyday. Over the extra 400mm he should have no trouble getting past her though.

Keep The Peace ($8) is a good New Zealand mare who has a career record of 6 wins and 7 places from 15 starts. Her latest run was on the 26 Feb when she won a Group 1 race over 1600m in New Zealand beating quality stayer Wall Street. Will run well.

Hawk Island ($16) is trained on the trackand won the 2000m Parramatta Cup at his latest outing. He has had 9 races over this distance and has won 6 of them and ran 2^nd once.
