 2011 Doncaster Preview & Tips
Randwick – Sat 16 April 2011
The $2,000,000 Group 1 Emirates Doncaster Mile over 1600 metres is the feature event on a 9 race program at Randwick that has three Group 1 races and four Listed races. There is a field of 18 runners including 5 mares. Brilliant Light came third in this race last year, but his lead-up form this time around has not been good enough to repeat the performance this year. The topweight in this handicap is four-year-old mare More Joyous who will carry 57kg.
Runners in the 2011 Doncaster at Randwick
More Joyous ($2.25) has a career record of 14 wins and 1 place from 18 starts. She has won her last 4 races in a row, all at Group 1 and Group 2 level. She has raced 4 times at Randwick for 4 wins and 3 times over 1600m for 3 wins. She will have no problems with the weight and is quite capable of notching up win number 15 in Australia’s most famous mile race.
Triple Elegance ($6.50) is one of 3 runners for Chris Waller. He has an excellent career record of 7 wins and 8 places from 18 races. He followed up 2 consecutive wins with a close 3rd in the George Ryder and should run well here.
Aloha ($8) put together 5 wins in a row, including the Group 1 Coolmore, before running 4th in the George Ryder by 0.6 length. She will carry 5.5kg less here than her last run and will make her presence felt.
Love Conquers All ($13) has had 4 starts from a spell and come 2nd at 3 of them. He runs his best races on this track and has won all 5 of his 5 starts here. Drawn nicely in barrier 7 and will run well.
Ilovethiscity ($16) is the only three-year-old in the race. Won the Group 2 Hobartville then the Group 1 Randwick Guineas then came 5th in the George Ryder. Has drawn out in barrier 17 which will not help him.
Sacred Choice ($21) is an excellent mare over the 1600 metres. She came 3rd in the Epsom last year and went to Melbourne in the spring where she won the Group 1 Myer Classic over 1600m at Flemington. Has drawn wide in barrier 15 but has never been unplaced over this distance.
Pureness ($21) is the most lightly raced horse in the field with only 8 starts. He has won 5 of them and been placed twice. Will run well.
