Australia’s second game in the World Cup will be held on 19 June 2010 at Rustenberg where we will play against Ghana. On the 18 June the other two teams in our group of four, Germany and Serbia, will play against each other.
How Australia Performed in Their First Group D Match
Australia was soundly thrashed by Germany in the first game. Germany beat the Socceroos 4-0. To make things even worse (if that’s possible) Tim Cahill was red carded meaning he is out for this next game. This is a terrible start and Australia will have to beat Serbia and Ghana as only the top 2 teams from each group go on to the round-robin games.
How Ghana Performed in Their First Group D Match
Serbia and Ghana played on 13 June at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Ghana won by one goal after the game looked as if it was going to be a goalless draw. A penalty in the 85th minute allowed Ghana to snatch a deserved 1-0 victory over Serbia in their first Group D match.
Will Ghana Beat Australia on 19 June?
This should be a very interesting game. Neither team has a lot of World Cup experience as Australia has had two appearances (1974 and 2006) and Ghana has had one (2006). Looking at the results for 6 men’s ‘A’ matches between the 2 countries Australia has won one, Ghana has won one and there has been one draw. Ghana played well in its first match on Sunday and Australia didn’t play badly but the German team played brilliantly so it is hard to line them up.
Centrebet has Ghana at $1.83 and Australia at $4.25 with $3.30 for the draw but I believe the odds should be a lot closer together, even without Cahill. Australia is worth having a bet on at that price.
Don’t forget to bet on State of Origin Game 2 on Wednesday night where IASBet has the Queensland team at $1.42 and NSW at $2.85.
