JJ Liston Stakes
There is an eight race program at Caulfield and the track is currently rated as heavy due to bad weather in Victoria, but is expected to be upgraded by Saturday. The feature race is the Group 2 $200,000 KS Environmental J.J. Liston Stakes weight-for-age race over 1400 metres and there is a field of fifteen runners.
Runners in the 2010 J.J. Liston Stakes at Caulfield
Two thirds of the field are resuming from a spell. Sterling Prince, Apprehend, Shoot Out and Tollesprit all have one run back from a spell while Carrara is the only horse who has raced through the winter. It is a quality field of mainly Group1 level horses who have won over staying distances. The exceptions are Tollesprit who has never won beyond 1420m and Carrara who has never won beyond 1600m. There are no mares in the field.
Predatory Pricer won the Liston Stakes first-up last year but it is hard to see him repeating that performance. Shoot Out looks the goods following his win in the Bletchingly when returning to racing on 31 July. His main dangers appear to be last years W S Cox Plate winner So You Think who can perform well first-up, the race-fit Carrara, Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul and mud-runner Apprehend.
