2010 Golden Rose Stakes
Rosehill Gardens – Sat 28 August 2010
Group 1 racing returns for the season with the richest race of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival on Saturday. There is an eight race program at Rosehill and the track is likely to be rated good. The feature race is the Group 1 $1,000,000 Tooheys New Golden Rose Stakes set-weight race for three-year-olds over 1400 metres and there is a field of fifteen runners.
Runners in the 2010 Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill
There are 9 colts, 1 gelding and 5 fillies in the field and all have had a least one run in August apart from Hinchinbrook who hasn’t raced since the Sires Produce in April. Six of the field had their last start in the 1300m Group 3 Run To The Rose on 14 August which is the main lead-up race including the first two home of Squamosa, who is unbeaten in his 3 starts, and Masquerader, who has 2 wins and a second.
Three of the runners had their last start in Melbourne with Toorak Toff winning the 1100m Vain Stakes on 14 August and Panipique and Crystal Lily running 1st and 2nd in the 1100m Quezette on the same day. Panipique has not raced the Sydney way but Crystal Lily won the Golden Slipper here. Toorak Toff is a brilliant horse but has yet to win beyond 1200m. Squamosa is drawn wide in 14 but his form is faultless although he meets Masquerader 5kg worse at the weights.
