Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes
The Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes will be run at Rosehill on 28 August 2010 and is significant because it is the first Group1 event of the 2010-11 racing season and is the only million dollar race of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The Tooheys New Golden Rose is a 1400 metre race for three-year olds, and the horses that perform well here usually go on to perform well in other Group1 races which means it is a race you definitely need to watch. There were 1809 nominations and 179 first acceptances shown on the Sydney Turf Club website, which shows just how important trainers consider this race.
IASBet Early 2010 Golden Rose Betting Market
The early market at IASBet has some great prices on offer for those who want to bet before the final field is released. The early favourite is last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily at the generous price of $7.50. Next in the market is Squamosa at $10, Hinchinbrook and Solar Charged at $11, Brightexpectations, Masquerader and Military Rose all at $12 then Decision Time and Toorak Toff both at $15. Master Harry, Pressday, Sasa, Shaaheq and Skilled are all at $17 and the rest of the first acceptances are all at odds of 20 to 1 or longer.
Lead-up Race to the Golden Rose
The Group 3 Run To The Rose over 1300 metres on Saturday 14 August is the key lead-up to the Golden Rose and the $125,000 race has attracted some of the top three-year-olds. Trainer Gerald Ryan has elected to run Hinchinbrook in the Starlight Stakes instead as he regarded the weight of 59.5kg allocated for the Run To The Rose unfair.
