The Group 1 $750,000 Australian Guineas is a set weight race for three-year-olds over 1600 metres held in autumn each year. It is run at Flemington racecourse and will be held on Saturday 6 March. At this stage there are 97 nominations and it looks like being one of the best races of the 2010 Melbourne Festival of Racing.

First declarations for the field are on Tuesday, 16 February at 12 noon and final declarations are on Wednesday, 3 March at 9am. Several of the top class three-year olds are also nominated for the $1,000,000 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m on the same day, with trainers having to decide which distance suits their horses and where they will have a better chance of getting a place in the field. They include We’re Gonna Rock, Denman, Manhattan Rain, Black Caviar, Irish Lights and Shellscrape.
