2008 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

May 2nd, 2008 : Horse Racing

Tuesday Joy is the early favourite for the $500,000 Group 1 Patinack Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000 metres. If she wins she will be only the second horse in history to win the weight-for-age treble of the Ranvet Stakes, The BMW and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Whatever happens Gai Waterhouse will enjoy the race as her other starter is Desert War who won this race last tear and will be having his final racing start. The Australian Jockey Club have chosen to honour this popular horse by having a special presentation after the Queen Elizabeth Stakes presentations are completed.

The presentation will be taking place in the mounting yard and a special rug will be presented to Desert War’s trainer Gai Waterhouse and staff on behalf of the AJC in appreciation of all his efforts on the track over the past five years.

The public will be invited to witness this presentation and to come and say a personal farewell to this sterling horse in his stall from around 3:25pm onwards.

There are only 10 starters in the race and four of them are three-year-olds waiting for a chance to run the older horses down.
