The Group 3 $125,000 St Marys Rugby League Club Missile Stakes weight-for-age over 1100 metres is the unofficial start to the Sydney spring carnival and has attracted a solid field of 10 runners.
The early favourite is Keen Commander who hasn’t started since he ran second in the Galaxy in March behind Typhoon Zed. He has an excellent record at this track and distance and was won 5 and been placed in 9 of his 16 starts. He won a Warwick Farm trial by 5.5 lengths on 22 July.
Second favourite is Typhoon Zed who ran third in the Ramornie at his last start after being held up in the straight. Captain Bax was the runner-up in the Ramornie and should finish this race strongly.
The most interesting runner in the field is Danehill Smile who returns to racing after an 18 month break after being unbeaten at her only 3 starts as a two-year-old. Her last win was 5 lengths in a field of 16 and she was a fast finishing runner-up in an 800 metre trial at Warwick Farm on 18 July. Watch the betting on this one.
Interfere is another good mare returning from a long spell and she performs well at this track and distance.
