After a record innings by the Australians in the second final, the 2006 VB One day International series will now go to a third and deciding match to determine the overall winner.
The pressure was always going to be on the Aussies having lost the first final in Adelaide in the best of 3 series final. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia was on the ropes at 3/10. With Pointing and Symonds then steadying the ship and setting up a fantastic partnership, the Aussies launched themselves to a record innings total of 5/368.
Sri Lanka put up a brave fight but it was always going to be difficult chasing such a large target on a deteriorating Sydney pitch.
The odds are out on the third and final match to be played at the Gabba (Brisbane) on Tues 14th Feb with Australia clearly on top. Will Australia play another record scoring innings or will Sri Lanka regroup and cause a massive upset, either way this one shapes up to be an exciting match.
