The $1,000,000 Group 1 AAMI Stradbroke Handicap over 1400 metres is Brisbane’s richest race and has a field of 20 plus 4 emergencies for the 2008 running. The early favourite is topweight Casino Prince who will be ridden by Damien Oliver while Vormista has firmed to second favourite. El Cambio looks nicely suited to the race but has drawn very wide in barrier 19 and will start from barrier 18 if the first emergency does not get a start. This doesn’t make it impossible to win as Rough Habit won his second Stradbroke in 1992 coming from barrier 18 and was also carrying topweight. Ice Chariot is an interesting runner as he has not raced for 280 days and has had 7 of his 9 wins at Eagle Farm. The most successful Stradbroke trainer is Bart Cummings who has won the race four times and will be represented by Swick on Saturday. Bart is still waiting for that elusive 250th Group 1 winner.
