Hawkesbury will host Sydney’s only race meeting on Saturday at a “Stand Alone” meeting. The provincial meeting is the last feature day of the revamped NSW autumn calendar which has spanned 50 days of racing around the state.
The $100,000 Bookmaker’s Super Fund Hawkesbury Guineas is the only listed race on the eight event program and has attracted a field of eleven.
With the colder weather the good horses have started to move north to Brisbane. The $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup will be held at Doomben on Saturday and is the first Group 1 race of the Winter Racing Carnival.
The 1200 metre race has attracted a small field of eight as local trainers are reluctant to run their horses against top sprinter Apache Cat. Apache Cat will be an odds-on favourite in this weight-for-age race and it is hard to imagine him being beaten in this field.
Tuesday Joy is the early favourite for the $500,000 Group 1 Patinack Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000 metres. If she wins she will be only the second horse in history to win the weight-for-age treble of the Ranvet Stakes, The BMW and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Whatever happens Gai Waterhouse will enjoy the race as her other starter is Desert War who won this race last tear and will be having his final racing start. The Australian Jockey Club have chosen to honour this popular horse by having a special presentation after the Queen Elizabeth Stakes presentations are completed.
The Randwick carnival comes to an end on Saturday with four Group 1 races on a nine race program. The $700,000 Group 1 Schweppes Sydney Cup has attracted a full field of 16 plus an emergency for this classic staying event over 3200 metres that was first run in 1866.
The early favourite is No Wine No Song after his superb win over 2600 metres last week – he ran third in this race last year. No Wine No Song is trained by ex-jockey Kevin Moses who won a Sydney Cup himself on Palace Revolt almost twenty years ago.
Randwick hosts a spectacular 9 event program this Saturday with four Group 1 races, a Group 2, a Group 3 and three listed races on the program.
The 2 main races of the day are the Doncaster and the Derby. The $1.8 million Group 1 Emirates Doncaster Handicap over 1600 metres has a full field of 20 plus three emergencies.
Randwick’s $1.8 million Group 1 David Jones Australian Derby over 2400 metres has attracted a field of 17 three-year-old colts and geldings.
The early favourite is Littorio who has finished strongly at his past two starts and looks as if the distance will be ideal.
