Efficient and Maldivian Head the 2009 Melbourne Cup Weights
The Melbourne Cup weights were announced on Tuesday 1 September. Efficient, who won the Melbourne Cup in 2007, and Maldivian, who won last years Cox Plate, are equal topweights for this years Cup with 58kg.
Two Top Australian Four-Year-Olds May Already Be Out of Cup
Several top quality four-year-olds were nominated for the Melbourne Cup and when weights were released on Tuesday the Victoria and South Australia Derby winner Rebel Raider received 54.5kg while Rosehill Guineas winner Metal Bender received 54kg.
